Kitchen of Kindness

Posted on September 2, 2016

The second Kitchen of Kindness happened last Monday at St Paul’s when Interact, Round Square and other student and staff volunteers gathered to create delicious meals. These meals are then distributed to people in need via Cup From Above, a local not-for-profit coffee shop.

We made approximately 35 meals, including Bolognese sauce, shepherd’s pie, pumpkin soup and minestrone. Our ingredients were sustainably sourced from produce left over from the Year 11 and 12 Cafes last week and supplemented with extra fresh veggies, garden herbs and staff donations.

Students from Years 8 to 12 worked happily to cook delicious food, tasting and seasoning as they went. Special thanks to Mrs Briigmann, Mrs Kingwill, Miss Gibson, Miss Dumitru, Mrs Svehla and Mr Weal – our delivery man!

For our next cooking day in Term 4 we will be requesting donations of fresh food and pantry items from the school community. We will also be renovating the garden beds near Home Ec to supply more fresh herbs for the project.

The call for volunteers will be made in the weeks before the date, to be advised.
