JTAS Athletics report

Posted on September 15, 2017

On Friday 8 September the Junior TAS Athletics Team arrived early at 6.30am raring to go and give their best competing for our School at the Queensland State Athletics Centre.

The children were placing well with lots of ribbons being awarded to them (great time for a photo!). The spirit of St Paul’s was shining brightly with much cheering and St Paul’s shouts.

During the day overall point updates were regularly announced with St Paul’s consistently being called in first place and this added to our excitement! This was encouraging for us as we usually come a close third or second. As the time came for our relay events we were very nervous as they are worth double points! As we only placed in three of our eight relays we were unsure how this would affect our overall position. We all had our fingers crossed!

Time for the awards to be announced for the Blue and Red Divisions. It was so exciting as our School, St Paul’s, was being announced for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Then the final announcement “Overall winner for the Red Division”……” ST PAUL’S”! The Children screamed with excitement, jumping up and down hugging each other.

Congratulations to all student athletes for their impressive teamwork and persistence during the entire day. They continually turned thirds into seconds and fourths into thirds and such efforts were critical to our success. St Paul’s were awarded in the Red Division:

Pennants:-

  • Boys – 3rd place 9 Yrs, 2nd place 10 Yrs, 3rd place 11 Yrs
  • Girls – 2nd place 11 Yrs

Trophies:-

  • 1st place for Boy’s Open and Girls 10 Yrs
  • 1st place for Overall Boys and Overall Girls
  • 1st Red Division Champions

For the moment, let us celebrate a memorable day!

We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to all the parents who supported the Athletics programme and attended during Carnival day. Special thanks to the parents who also assisted with coaching our squad during the term.
