Book Week 2025: Library Activities Bee-Bot Adventure Maps

Posted on August 26, 2025

Book Week is here! Each year, the Children’s Book Council of Australia invites us to celebrate the joy and power of books, and this year’s theme, Book an Adventure, is all about the incredible journeys we take every time we open a story. From exploring far-off lands to discovering new ideas, books spark our imagination and connect us to people, places, and possibilities beyond our everyday world.

Book Week is more than just a chance to celebrate stories, it reminds us of the value of literacy. Being able to read confidently gives students the tools to succeed in every subject, to think critically about the world, and to find joy in learning. Literacy builds curiosity, creativity, and confidence, and a love of reading is one of the greatest gifts we can give our students.

Monday Lunchtime Adventure: Bee-Bots & Minecraft

To launch our week of activities, our Junior students took part in a special Adventure Makers session at lunchtime in the Library. We set up Bee-Bot Adventure Maps, where students programmed small robots to travel across story-inspired worlds. Students had to think carefully about direction, sequencing, and storytelling as they guided their Bee-Bots on mini adventures.

Alongside this, students also had the chance to create their own world in Minecraft. Using digital building blocks, they designed landscapes, structures, and pathways that reflected their own sense of adventure. These creative activities combined play, technology, and storytelling, showing that story and adventures aren’t limited to the page but can be explored in many different forms.

This is just the beginning of our Book Week journey. Stay tuned for more adventures throughout the week.
