Book Week 2025: Fairy House Castles

Posted on August 27, 2025

Book Week is one of the highlights of our year, a time when we pause to celebrate the joy of reading and the magic of stories. The theme Book an Adventure reminds us that every book is a doorway. Whether it’s a picture book, a fairy tale, or a fact-filled non-fiction text, each story has the power to transport us to new places, introduce us to new characters, and spark new ideas.

Celebrating Book Week helps us shine a light on the importance of literacy. Reading builds imagination, strengthens problem-solving skills, and creates a lifelong love of learning. It’s through stories that students discover more about themselves and the world around them.

Tuesday’s Adventure: Fairy Castle Houses

On Tuesday, our Junior students stepped into a world of imagination and design with the Fairy Castle Houses activity. With paper, cardboard, scissors, and plenty of creativity, students set about designing and building their very own castles.

From tall turrets to secret doorways, each creation was unique and reflected the student’s own sense of adventure. This very popular activity encouraged problem-solving, hands-on building skills, and, most importantly, the chance to bring a story world to life with their own ideas.

Just like reading, making and designing helps students explore possibilities and express their creativity. By crafting their castles, students weren’t just building houses, they were building worlds, stories, and adventures of their own.
