Exercise and fitness

With the easing of travel restriction why not consider the great national parks that we have in SE QLD. The D’Aguilar Range is a great place to explore and is right on our doorstep. The following website has some of the most popular walks. My personal favourite is Jolly’s Lookout on Mt Nebo as it has some amazing views across Samford Valley and some awesome rainforest walks.

As we hopefully move closer to the return of some sporting activities I would like to encourage students to continue to find ways to both keep physically active and to maintain their skills. Here are a number of different individual skill based activities from our Sport and Coaching Coordinator.

Sport update by Mr Tim Hughes (Head of Sport Development)

Although there has been some discussion about the resumption of community-based sport, it is still unclear what that means for school sport. In the meantime, we are looking at a variety of options to get school sport started as soon as we possibly can. To try and continue to keep our St Paul’s community together while we are still under various restrictions, there are two events that we are currently running:

  1. [email protected] Cross Country Challenge
  2. Pink Day free dress

Mrs Wise has set two very different challenges to prompt students to reflect on their mental health and involve their families in an exercise activity.

  1. Mental health check-in
Recently I was tagged in a social media post suggesting I choose 10 albums that influenced my taste in music. I loved the task. Going through the albums from my past stirred up some wonderful memories. My task to you – select one album form you past that stirs up happy / fun / positive / warm memories. Find a quiet space and listen to it in its entirety. I did this over the weekend and it cleared my head. My album of choice was from many years ago – Silverchair’s Frogstomp. This week I think I’ll listen to Flume’s self-titled album from a few years back.
  2. Max wall sit – family challenge!
Grab everyone in your family and complete this activity together. Your task is to see who can last the longest in a wall sit. While it’d be nice to have some bragging rights as the winner, the idea is to encourage each other to keep going. This is as much of a mental task as it is physical!

Cross Country update by Mr Tim Hughes (Head of Sport Development)

While students are learning from home or at School, they have an opportunity to participate in our 2020 [email protected] House Cross Country Challenge.

The event will be running (pun intended 😊) during Week 3 and Week 4 for all students from Prep to Year 12.

Please click the link below for more information and to register for the challenge.

The Sports Department has compiled a list of skill videos. These videos are tailored towards Term 2 TAS and JTAS sports. We encourage students to try these as a way of keeping up their fitness and skill levels ahead of our eventual return to playing sport together.

Sport update by Mr Tim Hughes (Head of Sport Development)

The annual Cross Country carnival was scheduled to be held this week. With the current restrictions that are in place this is obviously not possible. However, there will be a House Cross Country challenge that will happen throughout the course of next week. There will be two events, one for those more competitive runners (through Strava) and a more community based participation event. Further details about our 2020 virtual House Cross Country challenge will come out later this week but please be prepared to get the running shoes out. I would like to encourage all of our students to get involved!

There is also currently a virtual TAS challenge that is happening on Facebook. I am sure many of you would have seen the post asking schools to like, share or comment their school post on the TAS Facebook page. Let’s support St Paul’s and show our Puma Pride, WE ARE PUMAS!

  • Circuit Challenge – Mr Hughes

Good luck, everyone!

Tuesday 31 March

Staying active during long periods at home can be difficult. Our PE staff have put together a list of tips that can help you to develop and maintain some healthy habits.

I’ve also set a challenge for students – can you reach 10000 steps today? Send a photo of your data to your HPE teacher, they’d love to see how you went!
