Continued partnership with Brisbane Airport Corporation

Posted on June 15, 2017

In October 2016, St Paul’s School collaborated with Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) to host a Design Symposium for our Year 3 students. The theme was to design what the air travel experience of the future would look like. In 2017, this fantastic partnership is developing further with a number of planned events.

Last week Tim Osborne (Head of Learning (Design)) & Justin Hill (Teacher) were invited to inspect the new extension of the International Airport terminal. Visiting this $87 million dollar project provided an opportunity for them to see how Design Thinking is applied in a major building project. Whilst there, Mr Osborne and Mr Hill were able to see the finished product through the lens of augmented reality (see image 2).

The learning opportunities for our students and staff through collaboration with BAC are very exciting. Steve Grant, Senior Project Manager at BAC said, “We enjoyed working alongside the students and hearing their fresh perspectives and ideas. Kids see things differently and it was eye opening to work with them on their ideas.”

BAC has agreed to work alongside Year 3 students again this year in our second Design Symposium, #Y3D2017. We are looking forward to collaborating and learning with BAC and our Year 3 students at #Y3D2017 as well as some new projects later in the year.
